Tax

Section 179 and why December matters

Equipment placed in service before December 31 may be deductible in that tax year under IRC Section 179, including equipment you financed rather than bought outright — which is the point. You can put $120,000 of kitchen equipment into service on a 60-month note and still take the deduction in the year it goes in.

Talk to your CPA about your specific limits and phase-outs; we are not giving you tax advice. But if you are going to do it, do it before the cutoff, and build in lead time — a hood and suppression job is rarely a two-week install.

Lease or finance?

$1 buyout

You own the asset at the end. Higher payment.

Best for a 15-year asset: a hood, a walk-in, a grease interceptor, a bar build.

FMV lease

Lower payment. Return it or buy it at fair market value at the end.

Best for anything that goes obsolete: POS, KDS, handhelds, displays.

You choose at signing, not after.

How it runs

How does restaurant equipment financing work?

  1. Send the quote with your application. Application, three months of bank statements, and the vendor quote or invoice. Under $150,000 is usually application-only.
  2. Approval in 1 to 3 business days. 600+ FICO, 6 months in business, $15,000 a month in deposits. The equipment itself is the collateral, and files under $250,000 carry no additional blanket lien.
  3. We pay your vendor directly. Usually within 24 hours of signing, including freight, install and tax — up to 100% of the invoice.
  4. You pick the end of term at signing. $1 buyout or fair-market-value lease.

Under 600 credit, or under 6 months open? Working capital has no credit minimum and can be used for equipment — many operators buy the asset with an advance today and refinance it into equipment paper later.

Straight answers

Equipment questions, answered.

Can I finance used restaurant equipment?

Yes. New or used, dealer or private-party sale. A used combi oven from a closing restaurant finances on the same terms as a new one from a dealer, subject to the asset’s condition and remaining useful life.

Can I finance equipment with a 580 credit score?

Not under this product — equipment financing has a 600 minimum. Working capital has no minimum credit score and can be used to buy equipment, which is the usual path under 600.

Do you finance a food truck?

Yes. A built-out food truck or trailer runs $50,000 to $200,000 and finances as equipment over 36 to 72 months. A catering van with hot-hold runs $35,000 to $90,000. A brick-and-mortar operator adding a truck usually qualifies on the restaurant’s statements.

Do you pay my vendor directly?

Yes. Prepline Capital pays your vendor directly, usually within 24 hours of signing. You never need to front the money and get reimbursed.

Can I finance installation and freight?

Yes. Up to 100% of the invoice is financeable, including freight, installation and tax. On a hood and suppression job the install is frequently a third of the total, and it goes into the same paper.

Buy the asset. Keep the cash.

$10,000 to $2,000,000 over 24 to 72 months, up to 100% of invoice. Approval in 1 to 3 business days and your vendor is paid directly.
